Helen Song, O.D.

Dr. Helen Song grew up in Philadelphia, PA and resided in New Jersey before coming to Virginia in 2011 to join Mary Washington Eye Care Center.

After receiving her undergraduate degree from Villanova University, Dr. Song obtained her doctorate degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.

While working on her doctorate in optometry, Dr. Song completed her internship at The Eye Institute of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania, where she was a provider of primary and emergency eye care.  Dr. Song also completed several externships around the country, including private practices in Clinton, MD and Voorhees, NJ, the Orlando Veterans Administration Outpatient Clinic in Viera, FL, and the Cizik Eye Clinic at Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston, TX.

Dr. Song is currently an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Virginia Optometric Association. Seeing patients in a variety of settings – from hospitals to private practices – has given Dr. Song opportunities to learn about the latest equipment and medications used to diagnose and treat eye diseases and vision problems in patients of all ages.

In particular, she gained hands-on experience in fitting patients with contact lenses and managing patients with ocular diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration.
